Meet the maker

A simple tool.
An enduring craft.

I’m Märt Viljaste, also known as Sprot. My craft starts with wood and a traditional pole lathe — a foot-powered way of turning that keeps the hands, the tools and the material in conversation.

Wooden bowls are at the heart of what I make, alongside other woodcraft projects. Each piece carries the grain of the tree and the marks of its making.
